When people have pain or other body discomfort, in addition to using medication, they often react to the discomfort in two ways:
I have developed a simple method in which you create a particular feeling of comfort and safety in your body and rest your awareness in that feeling. That feeling then spreads to help calm your body discomfort, much like a parent holding a child to comfort them. The discomfort then becomes softer, looser, and more comfortable by itselfwithout struggle. The method is so simple, you can also use it when in the midst of activity, with your eyes open. You will learn simple ways to receive and understand the messages that pain, anxiety, and/or discomfort may be trying to communicate. Your discomfort then can shift from being an enemy to being a source of guidance. This method can help you relieve many types of pain including:
It also can help relieve discomfort from hypertension, tachycardia, angina, gastrointestinal disorders, indigestion, reflux, ulcers, morning sickness, and chemotherapy nausea. It can help you feel more comfortable in your body. If you currently are taking pain medication, this pain-relief method, in combination with your medication, likely will provide a stronger level of pain relief than provided by your medication alone. If desired, and in consultation with your physician, this method can give you a way to comfortably and gradually reduce your use of pain medication. Your treatment is individualized. I have developed numerous steps for pain relief, so if one particular step is not helpful, we proceed through other steps, discovering the ones that are easiest and most effective for you. When we discover the steps that best reduce your pain, I will guide you concisely through your individualized pain relief procedure. As I do so, I will record it on a CD you take home with you to deepen the effectiveness of the procedure.
