If you are currently taking sleep medication: Continue taking your medication during at least the first week of the Sleep Easily treatment. Sleep Easily then gives you a way to gradually reduce and even eliminate the need for sleep medicationwithout withdrawal.
If you would like your spouse to join you in the session, she or he is most welcome. This may help you feel even more comfortable, and having your spouse understand what you are doing can feel supportive. Even if your spouse sleeps well, this method can help him or her sleep even better, even in the midst of stress.
Session One
- You learn how to breathe your Sleep Breath (the way you breathe when you are deeply asleep), very different from regular relaxation breathing. Your body relaxes by itself, your mind becomes quiet by itself, which gently eases you toward sleep.
- You learn a simple way to deeply calm your heart and abdomen, which signal your brain to become calmer, easing you into deepersleep.
- You learn this through small, simple steps. If any step is not as easy or effective as you would like, I make changes so the step becomes easy and effective.
- You receive a Sleep Easily recording of Dr. Shane guiding you through the simple steps that create your natural "inner pathway" to sleep. This recording is acknowledged by many to be the most effective recording in the field of sleep medicine. The method is so simple, you will soon be able to use it without the recording.
- You receive a comprehensive SleepGuide Manual full of information that will help you sleep.
- Sleep better your very first night!
- You gain a stress reduction method so simple you can use it during the day with your eyes open while you are in the midst of activities.
Session Two (approximately one week after Session One
- Based on what you experienced during the previous week, we refine the steps to be as easy and effective as possible for you.
- You also learn a number refinements to the steps you learned in Session One. You use just the refinements that feel easiest. Any one of them can make the method even more effective.
- This has special application to help you get back to sleep more easily, even in the midst of anxiety.
- You learn a variety of simple ways to reduce physical pain or discomfort. You use just the steps that feel easiest and most effective.
Session Three (approximately two weeks after Session Two
- You learn a simple way to rest in the deepest level of calmness within your body and mind, which makes sleep easy and gives you a simple way to feel well-being in your life. This then happens by itself without you having to do anything.
- We make further refinements to address your specific needs, so you sleep well in the midst of your particular life conditions and stressors.
- We further deepen the effectiveness and ease of the simple stress reduction method for use during the day.
Session One is 75 minutes. Sessions Two and Three are sometimes slightly less than one hour.
CD or mp3 player: Initially, you listen to the sleep recording while falling asleep or back to sleep, so please have a CD or mp3 player (you can use your cell phone) by your bedside to use the night after our first session. Please don't play the sleep recording on your computer as you don't want to have your computer on in your bedroom while you're sleeping. The method is so natural you soon are able to sleep well without the CD.
Cancellations or missed appointments: You are responsible for 50% of the session fee for any missed appointment or any cancellations of less than 24 hours notice. Extreme emergencies or weather are exempt.

If an emergency should arise when I am unavailable, call your local Mental Health Center Emergency Psychiatric Service or call 911.
Please do not drink caffeinated beverages for a few hours before our session. This will make it easier for you to experience the method more easily and deeply.
